Navrongo Cathedral, The merge of two cultures

Navrongo

Auteur(s) : CRAterre-ENSAG / Ghana Museums and Monuments Board
Pays : Ghana
Résumé :

The cathedral is very clearly of European influence. However it is a hybrid structure, a mix of vernacular and western know-how, using both local and imported building materials, in a complementary mix.
In 1972, the inside of the cathedral, was harmoniously decorated with the traditional techniques used to decorate dwellings in the area, mixing Nankani-Kassena motifs and symbolism with Catholic ones. These have paradoxically become the sole remains of this art at its apogee.
